Progress update


Hello everyone! Mako here, to update you on the current status of Bounty at Shark Fin Port.

First and foremost, I would like to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has played part 1 of the visual novel! Over 150 people have downloaded the game, which is honestly mind-blowing to me. I’m so very appreciative that you guys have taken the time to read my VN, and all the lovely comments you’ve left have given me such joy and inspiration to continue. Thank you so much again for playing, it really does mean the world to have people enjoy my writing, my art, and my goblin boys.

It’s been just over two years since I released part 1 of the VN, which is crazy. I would like to confirm that I am still working on the game, and part 2 is coming along!

Over the past two years, I have finished up my PhD research project, which I had to write a lengthy thesis for (around 78000 words!). This is why progress on the VN has been a bit delayed, and I thank you all again for your patience. Now that the PhD is wrapped up, I’ve had a lot more creative writing energy to spend on the VN again, so progress has picked up some steam!

For context, part 1 took me about 2 years to complete. I write each of the five routes simultaneously, so that they can all be released in one go. I am a one-man team – I do all the writing and all the artwork for the game, all in my spare time. I absolutely love it, and again, it’s such a thrill to me that people are interested in reading about my boys and learning about them – but this is why development on the game is pretty slow. It’s just me working on it!

In terms of progress on part 2, writing is about 80% complete. Part 2 will end with you and the group returning to Shark Fin Port. The rest of the story will take place in part 3; this should be the final part of the game.

I’ve taken some time to update the character sprites, as I’ve made some minor changes to their designs. Most of the changes will barely be noticeable, but I needed to make them for my own peace of mind. The most notable changes are:

  • Each of the boys now have five fingers and toes, rather than four
  • Rather than all their teeth being pointy and sharp, they now only have sharp canines. This is most noticeable in Bucko’s default sprite (see below)
  • Many of the boys have new shoes (not that you ever see them anyway – but again, peace of mind :P)

Congratulations on your PhD! It's understandable you prioritizing your thesis, so don't blame yourself for the long hiatus.

But reading this post is a great news for me! One of the most unique visual novel (I mean it; a goblin-focused visual novel? Unique indeed!) is finally returning. ^w^
